RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Eangiora Borough Council waa held on Friday evening to hear and determine objections to the burgess-list. There were present the Mayor and Councillors Blackett, J. Foster, W. Foster, Graham, Good, Sansom and Jennings. There being ho objections to the list, it was passed and signed. The motion giving notice of the Council’s intention to strike a general rate of three-farbhinga in the £ waa confirmed. The Mayor and Councillor Good were empowered to sign the rate-roll. The defaulters’ list, bearing the names of fiftythree ratepayers owing rates to the amount of £77 2a Bd, waa laid on the table, the defaulters having been struck off the burgess-list. The ordinary monthly meeting was then held. Correspondence was received:— From Sir W. B. Perceval, declining the Council’s application for a section in Perceval Street for a recreation ground. From the Treasury, Wellington, announcing payment into Council’s bank account of JS2 JGs 4d, part expenses of Licensing Committee elections. From the Fire Brigade, enclosing annual report and balance-sheet of the brigade. From the railway traffic manager, declining to comply with a request for a crossingkeeper at the High Street railway crossing. From Mr J. Payne, asking to have Queen Street widened opposite his property. It was resolved that the request could not be complied with. The Works Committee reported that Messrs J. Payne and C. King had carried out their asphalting contracts satisfactorily, and payment of their accounts was recommended, together with a progress payment to Mr G. Thompson on his contract. The report was adopted. The Town Clerk reported that rates amounting to £77 2s 3d' were ,unpaid, there being fifty-two defaulters,-whose names had been., struck ; off the burgess list, and their privilege to votfe taken from them for a year. It : waa ■ a'so reportsd that only forty dogs out of one hundred and twentyseven had beon registered. It waa resolved that rates hot paid .by June 11 and dog tax by June 20 should be'"sued for. The financial statement showed receipts ,£4014s sd, and Bank credit balance £179 17a 4d. Accounts amounting to £llß 9s 3d wore passed for payment. It was decided to invite offers for winding and keeping the town clock in order. With reference to sn account of £3 11s, from Messrs Murray and Son for putting the town clock in order, it was resolved to offer £1 15s 6d in full settlement. The action of the committee in extending Mr Murdock’s lease of the borough reserve until April 15, 189 G, was confirmed. The Works Committee, with Councillors Good and Sansom, were requested to report at the next meeting on the question of supplying the town with water provided by the proposed Waimakariri-Ashley races. The Fire Brigade Committee waa asked to biiag up a long-promised report with reference 'to the fire-bell and Brigade requirements. The meeting then terminated.
