ROAD BOARDS.

ASHLEY. °Th» monthly meeting of this Board was held on March 7 j preaent—Messrs Milltoa (chairman), Hodge, Martin and Stewart. The rate collector’* statement was read, showing that £55 was still oatstanding, and it was resolved that summonses should be issued against a number of defaulters. Unimportant' correspondence was dealt with. The Surveyor's report waa read, and it was resolved that the necessary materials should be obtained for painting and tarring the hand-rails to' the bridges in the districtj that consideration of the erection of Carmichael’s bridge should bo deferred until the next meeting; and that Carr’s embankment on Smart’s Soad should be fenced. Tenders were authorised to be invited for a supply of shingle (6500 yards) for the various roads in the district. - In reply to Mr Ashley, the Surveyor was Instructed to inspect and report on the road-line leading to the south* end of his property. The Clerk was instructed to prepare a return of outstanding rents, and endeavour to get them paid prior to March 31. It was resolved that the Surveyor ahoujd inspect the bush road through E.S. 11568 and interview Mr Brock as to the goise growing on frontage 34416. Mr G. S. Hickman was appointed retutning-ofScer for the Board. It was resolved—“ That it bo a recommendation to the incoming Board to take into consideration an alteration in the mode of horse hire.” Minor matters haying been arranged, accounts were passed for payment and the’ meeting terminated.
