ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
THE OROYA ASHORE. [Special to Press Association.] ROME, March 4. The R.M.S. Oroya is ashore in the Bay of Naples on a sandy bottom. Seventy of the Oroya’s passengers were landed. One boat capsized, and three of the sailors were drowned. A steam tug has been engaged to assist the vessel off, and the weather is improving. LONDON, March 4. Stormy weather prevents the floating of the Oroya. The passengers were all landed safely. It is hoped that the vessel will be got off tomorrow. The place where she lies is a shifting sandy bottom. The .steamer has been lightened as much as possible. ‘ A DASTARDLY ACT. CALCUTTA, March 4. Some miscreant in Julbulpore displaced a rail on the line on which a railway train was travelling, with the result that the carriages were thrown over an embankment. Nine persons were killed. LOSS OF A SCHOONER. MELBOURNE. March 5. The schooner Martha, from Circular Head, capsized in a heavy gale while coming through the Rip. The crew, consisting of Captain Sfcutz, the mate, Dalmer, and a seaman, Brown, were drowned. [Per Piuses Association,] DANEVIRKE, March 5. Anton Bernstein, an old settler afc Donevirke, met with a fatal accident yesterday. A horse attacked to his trap bolted, and Bernstein clung to the horse, which jumped at a high gate, striking Bernstein against it with great force and breaking his spine. Ha died two hours afterwards. DUNEDIN, March 5. At the inquest on the body of Christian Frederick Bohm, who was found in the harbour yesterday afternoon, a verdict of accidentally drowned while bathing was returned. The deceased, who was a married man, was a bootmaker by occupation.
