FOOTBALL.
The annual general meeting of tho Merivale Football Club was held last night, when there was a large attendance. Mr A. White, captain of tho club, occupied the chair. The balance-sheet showed the receipts for the year to have been .550 15a lid, and the expenditure £54 2s. The annual report staled that tho club had gained second place in the Senior Championship contest, being only one-half point behind the winners. The first fifteen played thirteen games, of which nine ware won, two lost and two drawn. The second fifteen played eleven games, winning three, losing seven and drawing one. Messrs White, Henries, Lang, Cook, Rides and Fraser had played for taa province in representative matches, and Mr Cook had been picked to play in the New Zealand match against Now South Wales. Tho election of officers resulted ne follows: —President, Mr A. E. G. Rhodes (reelected) ; vice-proaidente, Messrs I. Gibbs, J. C. Palmer, J. M’Namara, E. C. Ashby, J. Thornton, J. C. Adams, J. M. Hay hurst, H, D. Carter »ndD. Thomas,- captain, Mr A. E. White (re-olacted); deputy-captain, Mr P. Menriso; hon secretary and treasurer, Mr W. G. Garrard (re-elected); committee, Messrs F. Leach, R. Barry, C. Menziea; selection committee, Messra W. Pearco, W. Soper aud the captain; delegates to the Canterbury Rugby Union, Messrs F. Leach, F. Evans, W. G. Garrard and W. Soper. Tho opening day was fixed for March 23.
