Preston ia favourite for the Australian Cup at 3 to 1, 6 to 1 was offered about Donation, 7 to 1 Havoc, 8 to 1 Sternchaser, 10 to 1 The Harvester, Bonnie Scotland and Quiver, 15 to 1 lalanthuE, Gaillardia was left at the post in the Newmarket Handicap, in which Eiridsfprde finished last. Yesterday morning The. Harvester traversed* mile and a furlong in splendid style in a tick over two minutes. The general opinion ia that Cook was too generous to Mm last week. This morning he put in strong, work, finishing, well. Patron galloped a mile and a furlong in 2min Isec. Carnage strode over three miles stoutly on the tan. Havoc negotiated a sterling mile and a half. Mersey has dropped a filly to Trenton, bred to English ti me. During the settling this afternoon there was a fair volume of wagering over the Australian Cup. Preston was backed to win a few thousands at 100 to 25, which price was afterwards on offer. Havoc was the medium of spirited speculation, down to 100 to 20 being taken and offered. Sternchaser and Donation had numerous friends, who finally accepted 100 to 14 about each. The Harvester was supported for £SOO at 100 to 12. Despite this, the followers of Aliok Taylor’s stable rallied round Idolater, about whom 100 to 10 was the best offer at the finish.
