THE WELLINGTON ANNIVERSARY REGATTA.
[Pee Pbess Association.] WELLINGTON, Jan, 17. The Masootto had a fine weather passage from Lyttelton. The Waitangi will race under tbo colours of tho Auckland Yacht Club in’the First class Championship, as ehe does not become the property of the Wellington syndicate until the day after the regatta. The question as to whether the Waitangi could be considered an outside boat was dealt with by the Regatta Committee, who decided that if Mr Logan signed tho entry form describing the yacht ss sailing under tbo auc-pices of tho Auckland Yacht Club, the entry should be taken as from an outside boat. It is understood that Mr Logan will sign accordingly. It was stipulated that the prize for the first class race should b 6 £IOO if two outside boats competed, and as the Waitangi and Mascotta mate up the required number, tho maximum prize money will be paid. Mr Logan will sail the Waitangi, She is to bo taken on the slip to-morrow to have soma copper replaced. During the voyage from Auckland she displayed a great turn of speed on a wind, surprising those cn board. Although she is only a very email boat compared with the other competitors the owner of the Napier yacht, Atalanta, intends to sail her in the big event in preference to the race for second class boats. Both the Atalanta and Wcitacgi had a very rough time in Palliser Bay, where they experienced a heavy northerly sea. The general opinion in yachting circles here is that the Waitangi requires more ballast, but Mr Logan holds the contrary mew, and intends to sail her aa she is.
