CRICKET.
‘ CANTER-BUSY CRICKET ASSOCIATION. The committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association met at tho City Hotel last evening; present—Messrs W. H. WyanWilliamu (in the chair), F. Wilding, L. A. Cuff, J. Laurence, H. W. Hellyer, C. R. Smith, A. J. Barge, and T. D. Harman (honorary secretary). The Secretary stated that he had written to the Southland Auoociation pointing out that an annual fixture between Canterbury and Southland would be impossible, owing to the distance between the two provinces. The Southland Association wrote stating that it would send a team to play Canterbury on November 5 and G. The secretary stated that the Wellington Association had agreed to play Canterbury on Nov.' 9 and 10, at Wellington, and play the return match at Christchurch on Dec. 6,7 and 8. Tho Otago Cricketers’ Association wrote, stating that it was in favour of the formation Of a New Zealand Cricket Association, for tho purpose of controlling intercolonial and other representative New Zealand matches only, the headquarters to bo stationary and in Christchurch. The secretary stated that ho had sent copies of the proposed rules to all the cricket associations in tho colony, and had also seat circulars asking them to appoint two delegates to attend a conference, to bo held at Christchurch on Dec. 6. Messrs T. D. Harman and L, A. Cuff were appointed to represent the Canterbury Association at tho Conference. Tho West Coast Association wrote asking the Canterbury Association to send a team to tbe West Coast in January next. The secretary was instructed to reply that a team would be sent if possible. The draw for the second and third rounds of the Senior Cup resulted as follows Second Round—Lancaster Park v. Midland; Warehousemen v. United. Third Round—Lancaster Park v. Warehousemen; United v. Midland. On the motion of Mr Wilding, seconded by Mr Harman, it was resolved —“That it is desirable to adopt tho new rule passed by the. Marylebone Cricket Club bearing on “Hollow" on,’ provided the other cricket associations in New Zealand approve of the change” The Committee■ expressed the. opinion that the rule should only apply to two-day matches. The Secretary wae instructed to write to the' Auckland, Hawke’s Bay and Wellington Associations, stating that, the Canterbury Association ‘ would send a team through the North Island in 18S6. After dealing with minor matters the meeting closed.
A cricket match was played on the Ashburton Domain on Wednesday afternoon between teams from the Ashburton Junior Cricket Club and the High School, the former winning the game by 2 runs.
