SHIP CANAL TO CHRISTCHURCH.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —I notice on reading the report of the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s meeting in reference to tho ship canal that one of the members stated that “not a single point bad been brought forward in its favour.” Surely he had not read the copious list of reasons for its construction that appeared in your valuable paper a few days before. In about four months the time for tho election of members of tho Harbour Board comes round again, and perhaps there may be a few householders like myself who will vote for men on that Board who can see that a saving on one item, coal, of some ten shillings a ton. is a pretty strong point in favour of the canal, and one that will appeal to the pocket of everyone.—l am, &c.. A HOUSEHOLDER.
