MR G. J. SMITH, M.H.R.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The insult offered to Mr G. J. .Smith is an insult to myself and thousands of . others who sent him to Wellington to legislate for us. He was returned to support Liberal measures, but not bound to support illiberal measures, even though they are introduced by those who promised such great things and then neglected them. I believe if we had another election now Mr Smith would poll more than either of the other Christchurch members. Of course I cannot say how he will shape his conduct in the future, for if he votes against real Liberal m&asurea he will have to answer to those who sent him, as if we are dissatisfied with the present crowd we etill wane someone to pass Liberal measures.—l am, &c., DARE TO DO EIGHT.
