! CHRISTCHURCH; Monday, Oct. 1. (Before Messrs T. M’Clatchie and J. T, Matson, J.P.’s.) Drunkenness. —Two first offenders were each fined ss, and costs.—Robert Bunn was fined the same amount, the alternative in each case being twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. Attempted Suicide.— Alexander Malcolm was charged with having, on Sept. 24, attempted to commit suicide. On the application of Inspector Broham, he waq remanded till Wednesday. Case Dismissed.- Emile Huskissou alias Charles Rasmussen was charged with having insufficient lawful means of support and with having been previously convicted as an idle and disorderly person. Inspector Broham said that the prisoner had recently been sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for vagrancy, and, at the expiration of the sentence, he had been warned to leave the colony. The man had left, but on Saturday night the chief detective saw him, and found out that he had landed in Dunedin three weeks ago, and had walked to Christchurch. The prisoner had at first refused to say where he waa working, but had afterwards told them that he was working on Saturday at Merivale. Inspector Broham said that, under the circumstances, he did not wish to press the charge. The accused was then discharged. (Before Mr E. Beetham, S.M.) Civil Cases. —Jane Sophia Conway v. James H. J. M’Guinness, claim £3 9s 6d. Judgment was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed, with costs lie.—The case of Annie Hall v. N. Hall, claim £l2 8s Od, was adjourned till Oct. 29. KAIAPOI. Monday, Oct. 1. (Before Messrs H. W. Bishop, S.M., G. H. Blackwell, J.P., and his Worship the Mayor.) Civil Case. —Revell v. Bradley, claim £5, damage alleged to have been sustained through defendant cutting down about forty trees on land in the occupation of plaintiff. After hearing the evidence of the plaintiff and defendant, the Magistrate gave judgment for plaintiff for 10a, and coats. Mr Papprill appeared for plaintiff, and Me Helmore for defendant.
