LYTTELTON. Satubday, July 28. (Before Messrs J. G. Fyfe and T. Dyer, J.P.’s.) Alleged Laeceny.—James Bryant was charged, with the larceny of a pair of football boots from the Lyttelton Bowing Club’s shed, the property of David Joseph Page. Charles Porteous, another boy, was charged with the larceny of a belt, also the property of D. J. Page. The evidence of Mr Page was to the effect that on the evening of July 24 he left hia football clothing in a locker in the Lyttelton Bowing Club’s shed. On the following evening found that the locker had been broken open and the goods, including the boots and belt, produced, were missing. John Duffell deposed that on the afternoon of July 25, he, with the two accused, was in the Lyttelton Bowing Club’s shed. They got through the front door, which was shut but not bolted. Bryant broke the locker open, and took the boots away, Porteous took the belt. Witness and the accused got out of the .window and then wentalong the wharf, where Bryant took the spikes out of the boots and then took them homo with him. Saw defendant, J. Bryant, the same evening, and ho wsa wearing the boots. Constable Fitzgerald deposed to arresting Bryant, who did not deny the charge. Porteous said ha had taken the belt away from the looker but had taken it back again. Had takenit back after he heard that Bryant was arrested. The Bench said such offences would have to be put down. Both the accused, who had been before the Court on previous occasions, would be fined 20s, in default seven days’ imprisoment. They would be allowed seven days in which to pay the fine.
