THE LICENSING ELECTIONS.
[Per Press Association.] The following further details are to hand:Otaki.—The poll in Otaki was ineffective. The only temperance candidate was at the bottom of the list. Wellington City. —lt is understood that the Wellington committee intends to reduce the number of houses by only three or four. The scrutiny of the city poll ia expected to last three days. It has already been found, however, that Mr Smith, one of the. temperance candidates elected, who was eighth on the list, should be credited with forty-eight more votes; and this reduces the chance of his being displaced. Wellington Suburbs. —A scrutiny of tbe suburban poll shows that, with the informal votes added, tbe poll is effective in favour of reduction. The retuennigoffiser declines to count informal votes, and intends to declare the poll inoperative. Waihemo.— The Temperance Committee has been elected, the lowest successful candidate polling 330 votes more than tbe highest moderate., The complete local option returns are not yet available, but the poll will probably be void.
