COUNTY COUNCIL.
SELWYN. An ordinary meeting of .the Selwyn County Council was held yesterday morning; present—Messrs D. M'Mill an (chairman), W. Boag, W. Dunlop, E. Westenra, Turner, A. Wiffeu and J. G. Murray. ' -chairman's statement. ■ ■ The statement of the Chairman reported the receipt of the following letters : From the City Council, concerning': a BlanghtericglicenßeatAddingtonSaleyards, and a petition from residents at Addington, objecting to such license. From the returniag-officer of Eiccarton, reporting the result of the licensing election, and enclosing his account. -From the Springs and Lincoln Eosd- Boards, in reference to the building of Selwyn bridge.. From :the Springs, Eiccartoo,. Courtenay, and' Lincoln Eoad Boards, and the Ashburton County Council, in- reference to the suppreesioa of small birds. From the Heathcote Bead Board, asking for a cheque for the amount voted for main roads. the Springs Boad Board, with reference to the proposed drain on the west tide of the. Canal Beserve at Lake Ellesmere. BOUNDARY BRIDGES. Mr Westehra moved, pursuant to .notice _»That the Beads Diversion Committee be requested to inquire intothepaeition'of the boundary bridgesunder the control of J the Council, with- a view to getting, them proclaimed under the'Public Works Act Amendment Act, 1887.” The motion waraeconded by MtTarfier, and agreed to. , 'SLAUGHTERING -LiCSNEE ■AT ADBnfOTON. . The Chairman ialttjir the petition Igdl&it' the Igmtujirottltt Addington slaughter license, ■ the Coancil could go no farther with it.-. This was agreed to. - * . miscellaneous. The accounts • from the Biccarton retnrning-offioer, which, amounted to £7S, were left over* till next meeting to be taxed along-with-the other licensing election accounts. Consideration of ; the matter ; of . tho bridge' over the Selwyn at Ellesmere was deferred until replies were received from the Ellesmere and Southbridga Bead ' Boards. _ '- Beplies from Eoad Boards with reference to the small birds nuisance were considered: Tho Council had suggested.that fid per dozen should be given for small birds’ heads and Is for blackbirds'-heads. Discussion was deferred until further replies were received. The Springs Bbad Board wrote in refer* . encato the Lake Ellesmere drain on the west side of the canal, that ■it would contribute one-third of the . cost provided-the' adjoining land-owners also, paid one-third* the Council to,pay the: remainder; money would be funds mately be- spent in the ; Board's interest-; - cwtfglf bute;two-thirds.- v : The Council decided to ask the Board to carry but the work, and to collect one-third of the cost from the landowners. Beports were received from the inspector upon the various contracts :n hand, and from the inspector of slaughter-houses. A report upon the water-races was also received. . ..
