FOOTBALL.

The East Christchurch Football Club, which is preparing for its annual match with the Poneko Club of Wellington, held a practice match at the North Park on Saturday afternoon, when a team picked, by Spring defeated one picked by Harding by 28 points to 21. The Pirates Football Club held its opening game at Addington on Saturday, when a picked team played the rest of the Club. The team, notwithstanding the large number opposed to it, played with excellent combination, their passing being exceedingly good. For the Club several new members gave great promise. Sykes, Dewsbury, A. Simpson, Loveday and Freeborn played well, while Whitley, M’Callum, DeMaus, Shackleton and Merriman were conspicuous for the team.
