The list of fine passenger and cargo steamers trading to the Port was added to again yesterday by the arrival of the Perthshire, a 'steamer of 6640 tons gross register. She is a really magnificent vossel of her class, and built expressly for thfl trade between New Zealand and the Mo ther Country. She was launched only last year frdm the yards of Messrs E. and W. Hawthorn, Leslie and Co., of Newcastle. Her registered owners are Messrs Turnbull, Martin and Co., and she is 420 ft long, 54 ft beam and 32ft draught. Her engines are on the triple expansion principle, the diameter of the cylinders being SOin, 48in and 78in, with a stroke of 54in. She is built on a compromise between the « well deck ” cargo steamer and the flush decker, with a short forecastle and poop, the former being 50ft and the latter 42ft, while the bridge deck extends over 162 ft.
