■» i—[Special to Press Association.] LONDON, Feb. 8. Tenders for the city of Sydney loan of .£300,000 at 4 per cent, at par, were opened to-day. The amount tendered was .£1,200,000, at an average of about .£lO2 14s. One lender was for the whole amount. Fbb. ; 9. The London and North-western District Bank has suspended payment. The Calcutta correspondent of the Times says the feeling in financial circles in Calcutta is something approaching to a panic, and the Bank of Bengal has raised the discount rate to 9'per cent. SHIPPING-. LONDON, Fas. 8. The Aorangi arrived at Plymouth yesterday, with her meat in good condition. ' Feb. 9. Arrived—Star of Victoria, s.s., from Wellington. Dunard, barque, from Port Chalmers. Cape of Good Hope, ship, from Lyttelton. CAPETOWN, Feb. 8. The Kaikoura has arrived. Tho fire which occurred on the voyage to Teneriffe broke out in the number five hold. A portion of the cargo ‘ for Auckland and Lyttelton is damaged. Six hundred packages will be returned, while the remainder will he forwarded to the colony by the Kaikoura and Ruapehu.
