SAN FRANCISCO ROUTE.

TO TEE EDITOR.

Sib,— " Traveller,” in your Saturday's issue, seems to think it a hardship that the: fate to Sydney on the San Franoiapo route is no more than it is to Auckland.; If my memory serves me right.travellers’ can go to England almost as cheaply, it not quite, as they are charged for a passage to San Francisco. A little opposition would no doubt do a great deal' of good. In my estimation £ls should be quite sufficient for' a saloon passage, and £lO for a steerage passage to San Francisco. Reasonable fares would encourage people to travel, and in the long run would no doubt give the shareholders bigger dividends than they now receive. Traveller’s ” letter is a very timely one, and I would earnestly recommend it to the consideration of the members of the Chambers of Commerce throughout the colony.— I am, &a., RIP VAN WINKLE.
