PIONEER BICYCLE CLUB.
The monthly general meeting of the members of the Pioneer Bicycle Club was held in the Club-room on Thursday evening, a large number of members being present. Mr W. J. S. Hayward (captain) occupied the chair. Correspondence was received as follows Prom Mr Reynolds, intimating his intention of visiting Christchurch about the end of February. From Mr H. Thompson resigning his ofSoa of vicecaptain. The resignation was accepted with regret, and Mr W. F. Waller was elected to fill the vacancy. Prom the Pioneer Bicyc'e Club, London, forwarding the club a New Tear card and fraternal greetings. It was resolved to acknowledge same, and forward back a suitable present to the London Pioneers.
It was unanimously resolved to hold a race meeting on March 1?, and the committee was empowered to make all the necessary arrangements.. • ■ The following were elected members Messrs J. S. Webb, A. W. Hallenstein, P. G. Withers, E. W. Reid, JV E.‘ Pickering, Dr Lomaz-Smith. ~ . - 7 The treasurer handed in hfs report on the recent race meeting, showing a net profit of JSIS 11s 7d, which, considering the unfavourable weather, was considered very satisfactory. The monthly report showed the club to be in a sound financial position, the cash in hand amounting to about .£9O. The concert recently held in the new clubroom had resulted in a profit of £5, after paying all liabilities. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr C. G. Moss, seconded by Mr G. Rankin, that the name of the club be painted on three of the windows of the club-room.
Ms C. A. Myhre proposed, Mr Waller seconded, and it was carried—“ That an exhibition of cycles ba held under the auspices of this club, after the style of the Stanley show ; the date to be fixed and all arrangements to be left in the hands of the committee.” ‘
Mr Lowry read an extract from a Sydney paper reflecting on the. New Zealand team of cyclists which visited New South Wales, and asked Mr Hayward for an explanation. Mr Hayward gave a full account of the affair, and the following resolution was unanimously carried —** That the action of the New South Wales cycling authorities in forwarding. the trophies won by the members of the New Zealand team of cyclists to New Zealand, other than by the ordinary business channels, was not inspired or instigated by Mr Hayward, and that this club exonerate Mr Hayward and the members of the New Zealand team from wilful intention of evading the Customs duties; but, under the circumstances, is agreeable to recoup the New South Wales cycling bodies the amount of the fine paid by them.”
A large amount of routine business was transacted, and the meeting closed with a vote o£ thanks to the chairman.
