1 [Pan PaEsa Abbooutiobt.l WELLINGTON, Deo. 14. I The Premier went south by the Hinemoa i' at one o’clock. Mr Ward leaves by the ' Flora at four. Mr W. Gray, secretary of the general Post Office, will assume the position ofsecretary of the post office and superintendent of telegraphs, and Mr Bose, inspector of the post office, will be appointed assistant secretary of the post and telegraph offices. It is intended to appoint an electrician head of the telegraph department with the rank of chief inipeitor, and the position will probably fall oa one of the inspectors in either. Christchurch, Dunedin, Napier or Auckland, but Mr Ward, who left for the south this afternoon, states that the decision will not be known until his arrival in Christchurch to-morrow. Dr Lemon will be granted three mouths’ leave of absence i from Jan. 1, and on its expiration he retires from the superintendenoy, though he does not altogether sever his connection 1 with the department. In his letter sugIgesting that he should be allowed to retire. Dr Lemon expressed bis willingness to act as consulting electrician to the department for a small fee, and the Cabinet unanimously decided to act on the suggestion, i It was mentioned that Dr Lemon intended j entering farm pursuits on his property in the Manawatu district, but this he denies, i and states that he will shortly open up ft S large electrical business in the city, but i whether on his own account or in conneo- | tion with others has not been allowed to ’ transpire. The doctor explains that after : continuous work for upwards of thirty ■ years, he desires to be relieved from the cares of office. He looks back with pleasure upon the /jtridji the department has made since ho'entered the service in 1863.’ j It was Dr Lemon who established duplex telegraphy between Blenheim and Wellington, in 1874. He will receive a pension of .£350 per annum. The Gazette announces that “notwithstanding anything contained in the Order-in-Council of Jan, 5, 1888, under, the provisions of the Education Act, 1877, relating {inter alia) to attendance registers and returns, payment of capitation allowance to Education Boards for the quarter ending Deo. 31,1893, shall be according to the working average attendance of the last preceding quarter, as working average is defined by an Order-in-Council dated July 5, 1837, and made under the provisions of the before-mentioned Act.” The appointments of Collectors of Agricultural Statistics are gazetted, and Mr B. W. M’Kerrow has been appointed a memI bar of the Otago Land Board. | The members of Parliament elected at 1 the general election are gazetted.
