SOUTHLAND SHOW.

[from oub own correspondent.J ■ ; ' INVEECAEGILL. Dec. 13. The weather for the second day of the show was warm and pleasant, and between four and five thousand people paid fop admittance. The show of horses waa one of the bast seen in the South Island this season. This district' has long been celebrated for its draught stock, and the exhibits this year well maintained its reputation. The stallions were good, the mares certainly the host in the Colony, and the geldings hotter than anything seen iu Christchurch and Dunedin. Messrs Walter and James Blakie were tho largest exhibitors, and tho former may certainly claim to have the champion mare of New Zealand. The light horses were a great improvement upon anything seen at the show before, and the large number of entries in each class shows that great interest is being , taken in horse breeding. There wore thirty-two entries in the roadster class, and Mr Guthrie’s Nigger, who was placed first this year in Christchurch, took the judges’ fancy moat, although there were many horses almost his equal in tho class. The thoroughbred stallions were a good lot, Lorraine beating six other good ones. Carriage horses and ponies were well represented. The hunters were numerous, and as usual very assorted, but the jumping was good, and horses that had been placed for it in Christchurch and at Ashburton could not obtain first awards.
