• ITeb Peeks Association.! L AUCKLAND, Deo. 8. A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, headed by Mr Adam Porter, muted on the Hou J G. Ward in regard to several matters, Mr Matthew Clark cpote of the anomalies existing in regard, to the duties on soft goods, some materials being allowed in free whilst others, differing only in pattern. pr.id lUper cent. On the suggestion of Mr M’Millan. Mr Ward undertook to confer with the President of the Warehousemen's Association on his return to Wellington. He also promised Mr M’Millan that tho route of the line from Auckland to Wellington should be fixed next session. He quite recognised the loss that Auckland sustained.- He also undertook that all publicity shoMd be given to decisions in regard to dutiable goods. Mr Porter, on behalf of the Chamber, thanked Mr Ward for the aid he had given in respect totha San hranoisoo service and the reduction in cable rates. Tho Colonial Treasurer said he always had thought that for its position, so far away from tho rest of the world, New Zealand should have the cheapest possible means of communication. It he lived and had lua way tho coat would be reduced very much more.
