ROAD BOARDS.

TAI TAPU. The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Dec. 1; present—The Chairman and all the members. —Mr Rhodes waited on the Board and asked if it would pay a share of the cost of metalling Duasford’a Valley road. Mr Rhodes offered to pay onethird of the entire cost. A letter waa alao received from the Halawell Road Board that that body had accepted Mr Rhodes* offer, and had decided to call tenders for the work. It was resolved to accept Mr Rhodes* offer.—The Halswell Board further announced that a tender to clay about tea chains of Daiuford’e Valley road had been lot. It waa resolved—“ That the Halswell Board ba informed that this Board would suggest tliat the metal to be placed on Lunsford’s Valley road should nob be larger than three inches, and that alternative tenders be invited to break, &c., the metal either on Mr-Rhodes’ hill or some of the other quarrks.”—Specifications wera accepted for carriug melal to the Beach road, and tenders were received, that of Mr A. Donoghue, at Is per yard, being accepted.—lt was resolved that; the County Council should be applied to for £2O, in terms of its letter of Oct. 1, the Board having already expended J 373 9s fid in employment of tho unemployed.—lt waa resolved that the road from. Dansford’a Valley road to Gorken’o bridge should be re-formod to its full width, and that tenders should bo sent in at the next meeting of the Board.—lt was resolved to request prompt payment of all oat* standing rales. LITTLE*RIVER. An ordinary meeting of the Little River Road Board was held on Dec. 4; present —Messrs H. D. Buchanan (Chairman), W. H. Montgomery and H. White.—Mr W. Birdling apologieed for non-attendance.—* Hr John Coop waited on tha Board, requesting that some improvement may ba effected on - part of the road leading through M’Queea’a 'Valley. It was resolved that a small sum should be expended on this work.—Mr Birdling wrote, calling attention to some repairs necessary to Price’s Valley road. The Clerk was authorised to attend to this matter.—Tha specification of works in removing bridges and replacing with drain pipes was read, and a tender received; but ns the price was considered too high, the Clerk waa instructed to have the work done by the Board’s men; also to attend to some repairs to Western Valley road near the creamery.—The circular received from the Waiiarapa County Council was again considered, but nothing was decided thereon.—The Chairman gave notice that ho would move at the next ordinary meeting of the Board “ That this Board is (of opinion that it would be to the advantage of (ibis district to have the maintenance of that part of the main toad passing through the Little River Riding taken over from the County Council and placed under the control of the Read Board, and that this Board offers to take it over on the following conditions; «—(].) That it undertakes to maintain the main road end pay all money necessary for maintaining it out of. Road Board foods. (2) That it undertakes to pay its own chare of charitable aid. (8) That its agrees to the Council retaining the money accruing from hotel licenses and dog fees. (4) .That the Council agrees to band over to the Road Board any subsidy or subsidies which may be received from tho Government ou behalf of this district. (5) That the Council agrees not to levy or collect any rates in this riding while such arrangements exist.” Accounts were passed for payment, and some routine matters considered, and the meeting terminated. COURTENAY. . •' A meeting of this Board was held on Dec, 5; present—Messrs J. Gough (Chairman), T. H. Anson, H. A. Knight, J. Dysarfc, C. Rudd and T. Needham.— Correspondence was read: From the Selwyu County Council, applying for the amount due by tho district on account of •ffioEpitals and charitable aid. Deferred till next meeting of the Board.—From Mr J. D. Harm ant, offering to lease Reserves 1621 and 1623 for ton or fourteen years. Declined, as tha rent offered per annum wa» below tho minimum fixed by the Board.— From Messrs C. L. Davies, G. Rid gen, A. Bailey and H. A. Kaight,.applying for open crossings for water-race water across drain roads. Granted.—Prom Messrs 0, O’Malley and W, Tresidder, applying for an extension of time for the completion of their contracts. — An 'extension of one month was granted. Prom Messrs D. Garland and M. Jackson, applying for permission to plough the sides of roads for tho destruction of gorse. The Clerk was instructed to reply, giving conditions under which the Board /would permit the work to ba done.—lt was resolved to purchase a email piece of land, pnrfc of rural section 83723, from Mr H. A. Knight, for tha purpose of widening the road at Bleak .Houso cutting.—lt was resolved—- “ That if the cost incurred in abating a nuisance earned by v. dead horse being left exposed near Wecdoa School be not paid within fourteen days, the Clerk be instructed to take iofial proceedings for its recovery from tho person liable.—Accounts amounting to £317 5s 2d were passed for payment. . ’
