NORTH CANTERBURY COOPERATIVE STORES.
To meet the requirements of their growing business the Directors of the North Canterbury Stores Company, Bangiora, have contracted with Messrs Boyd and Heir to erect them very commodious premises on the site in High street occupied until recently by Mr J. Anderaou. The building, which is to be of brick and concrete, with iron roof, will have a ground floor opaoe of 4/£b by 80ft 9 in, while the upper floor space will bo 47ffc by 2Kt, the back, portion of the budding; being oaly on a story. The street elevation wilt bo nicely ornamented, and, being finished ofi with an iron verandah, will ba one of the handsomest business premises in the town. To the left of the main entrance will bo the manager’s room and office, and on the opposite side tho coed department. At the rear of these will be arranged the other departments, comprising grocery, ironmongery, china and glass, harness and saddlery, bools and shone, drapery and clothing. Tho latter department, to which there will ba a separate front entrance, will occupy the whole length of tho vest side of tha building, end at the lower end there will bo a drees and mantle room. The upstair rooms will be used as a dressmaking and millinery department. At tho back of the main building there will bo a store'room 2Sft by 20ft, and a room lift 9in by 20ft for receiving and packing dairy produce. The fittings throughout are to bo of a most complete description, and in all probability the pcomiaeo will bo lit by electricity, tho oil engine to_ work tha dynamo being made-useful in tho daytime for driving seed-cloaniag and other machinery in a concrete. grain store already ereotad on tho property. Tho contract prieo for the building is ,£S9O, and it is to be completed within four months. Mr A. J. Carmichael is tho architect.
