[Pee Pbsss association.! AUCKLAND, Dec. 6, After an absence of three years, during which time she has been engaged ia improving Melbourne harbour, the Auckland Harbour Board dredge. No. 121, returned to port this morning, her Australian engagement having been terminated. It is probable that the dredge will not ba fitted np again for use in the Waitemata for some time to come, as the Harbour Board is in negotiation with tho Lyttelton authorities for a term of dredging at the latter port. The Hon J. G. Ward has been detained in Auckland longer than ho expected on business connected with the departments over which he has charge. He will, however, have completed ail his work here by Friday, when he intends to proceed south by the 'Talune. The Education Board has received 283 entries for the junior and senior scholarships. Thu Board has on its list at present names of 100 persons who have passed the examinations and for whom it hca no employment. At a meeting of the Board, the Chairman stated that only one out of eight applications for the post of Chief Inspector might possibly prove satisfactory, and he could not recommend any* It waa proposed to invite fresh applications with £6OO a year salary and three years’ engagement.
