GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The twelfth annual meeting of the Girls’ Friendly Society was hold in the Young Men’s Christian Association rooms at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. Dr Julius, Bishop of Christchurch, occupied the chair. There was a very good attendance. The annual report referred to the dissolution of the connection of the Society with St Catherine’s Lodge. There was now no central recreation room belonging to the Society, the schoolroom in each parish serving as meeting places. In April a central office situated in Tuam street had been secured, and was kept open every Thursday morning from 10.80 to 12 o’clock for the convenience of associates requiring information aud for transacting business in connection with tho central work. The affiliated parishes of Merivnle, Sydenham and St Michael’s had been formed into branches. Forty-six associates had joined tho Society during tho year, as against 33 last year, the total number being 98 working associates and 84 honorary associate!. Mrs Wigram had resound the duties of Diocesan Secretary upon her return in January, Miss Hale having discharged them during her absence. Mrs Dobeon had been elected Treasurer in December, The number of members was 665, being an increase of 199 on last year. The library at the central office, under the charge of Miss Irving, lent to tho branches parcels of books upon the payment of a small sum, and the Society’s magazines were distributed monthly. Tho report was generally of a hopeful character, and was sanguine Ihnt fchs work of the Society was moat useful and much appreciated by those it reached. The Bishop congratulated the Society on the steady progress it had made during the past year, and spoke in hopeful terms of tha present year’s prosperity. On the motion of the Rev E. A. Scott, seconded by tha Rev TV. A. Paaeoe, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed that £67 6s 9d Lad been received and £27 4i 9d expended, the balance of £4O 2s remaining in the hands of tho Treasurer. The Treasurer of the sick fund. Miss M. J. TV. Qibbc, reported receipts £lO 18s 10Jd and expenditure £3 ss.

Branch reports were presented from Ashburton, with 11 rssociates and 32 members; .Avonsido, with 33 associates and 86 members ; Heathcote, with 9 members ; Merivale; St Michael’s, with 75 members and 29 associates; Papanui, with 7 associates and 23 members; Eiccartoa; Ryall Bush; Sydenham, with 21 members; TVeat Lyttelton and. WoodburyThe following officers were elected:— President, Mrs Julias (re-elected) ; VicePresident, Sira Mathias ; Council, Mesdames Fenwick, Hawkes, Hoare aud Webb; Treasurer, Mrs Dobson (reelected ; Diocesan Secretary, Mrs H. F. Wigram (re-elacted) ; Assistant Secretary, Mias Ainger (re-elected). Votes of thanks having been accorded to tho officers and helpers, the meeting terminated.
