FPeb Peess Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 5. At an adjourned meeting of the New Zealand Naval and Military Association it was decided so ask Sir G. Grey to become patron. The platform of the Association is to seek for fresh legislation embracing, •without any technicalities, the right (a) of every officer, soldier or sailor of her Majesty's land or sea forces who left the Imperial service for the purpose of settling in New Zealand, between the years 1843 and 1868, to claim a land grant; or (6) any of the foregoing who ware wounded or disabled in the execution of their duty and t ent out of New Zealand; or (c) any officer or private of any New Zealand Volunteer corps who completed on Dec. 31, 1876, five years continuous service in any corps in any part of New Zealand; or (cl) any* officer or coast able of the New Zetland Armed Constabulary who completed by Dec. 81, 1871, not leas than three years' continuous service in the field. The new Mayor of Onehunga, Mrs Yates, haa trying times ahead of her. It is stated that four Councillors, the Town Clerk and the Eire Brigade have resigned. At the University College Council, the Committee appointed to make arrangements for filling the vacant professorships of classics, math emetics and English, reported that several applications for the vacancies had bean received from New New Zealand and Melbourne, sad ic was decided to inform the applicants that they should apply by cable to the AgentGeneral or the commission appointed to act in England. At a meeting of the Auckland Presbytery to-night, the report of the Commission appointed to enquire into the charges of heraoy against the Bev S. J. Neiii, of ‘Thames, recommended that the charges should be remitted for investigation to the General Assembly at its next meeting. The report was adopted. DAEEYIEEB, Dec. 5. A man named Yincsat.
