SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.

An ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Sydenham Boroaga Council was held last evening; present Councillors Brown, Taylor, Wsnny, Forrester, Rudd, Jones, Haaiield, Muff’ctb, Smith, Samuels, Clifford v.ud Langdown. Councillor G. J. Smith, ia the absence of the Mayor, was voted to the chair, CORRESPONDENCE, Letters were rend:— From the Town Clerk, stating that Mr William Jacques had been elected Mayor of the Borough for the ensuing year. The letter was received. ' From the New Zealand Land Association, asking the Council to allow it to load wool into drays aud waggons from the west entrance of its Durham street store. Permission was granted, subject to the Association being responsible for any accidents that may occur. WORKS COMiirrTEE. The Works Committee recommended that the offer of Mr W. Ditiart to carry out the scavenger's work of the Borough till March 31 should be accepted. The Committee could not see any necessity for concreting the channel on the eastern side of Dickens street. The report was adopted. FINANCE. Tho Finance Committee reported that the receipts since lest meeting hud amounted to AS9G 12s 2d, the principal items being :—General ».acount~rates A 304 9s lie, fh'„ r licenses A 4, bath tickets &i Ida 6d, £2; separate account—rates .£282 .13 i bd. The balances of accounts were as follow:—Separata account —credit .£231 17s (id; interest account — credit JSIOB 14s 8.1; ham account—credit .£5389 IS; 91; geneial account —debit Al6O Os 4G. The Committee recommended payment or accounts amounting, to <£4os lls 7J, the principal itonie being— Drainage Board raUs AS34 17s 6d, Waimakaiiri River Board rales A 2-4 3s 3d. Tde report was adoptsc. Alter attiUcliug to some minor matters the meeting closed.
