The barque Halcione arrived from Nelson yesterday evening, consigned to Messrs Edwards, Bennett and Co. The barquentina Ocean Rwger, for Newcastle in ballast, and the 'barque Aloeatis, which cleared for Guam with a full cargo of produce, both put to sea yesterday. ’ The steel barque Silverstream, 1172 tons. Captain Dogwell, under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company, arrived at Timaru on Wednesday from Capetown, in ballast, after a run of thirtyseven days. She made a good passage of twenty-eight days to the Snares, and then, owing to light and bead winds, was nine days in making her, destination. The barque Alice, which arrived in port' on Wednesday evening from New York, brings a cargo of 1250 tons of merchandise, comprising a large, consignment of reapers and binders. She comes under charter to Messrs Sclanderaand Co., and is in command of Captain Swain, who has made several trips to New Zealand ports before, but who is now on his first voyage - to Lyttelton. Captain Swain reports Bailing from New York on July 7, and experiencing very fine weather to the Capa of Good Hope. On July 23, in 33*28 north and 29*39 west, a ship’s lower-mast was passed; it was apparently from a large vessel. After rounding the Capa of Good Hope the vessel fell in with very bad weather, and sprung her fore-topmast, while further anxiety was caused to Captain Swain and his officers by the rudder braces work- j ing adrift, which caused the vessel to be very difficult toateer. On Sept. 29, when in 42*15 south and 00*59 east, a ship’s lowermast, with the cross-trees attached, was passed. The spar was acrapad bright, and did not appear to have been in the water long. Captain Swain considers it was from some largo ship bound towards New Zealand. The Snares were passed on Oct. 16, and along the New Zealand coast the weather was very unsettled, the barometer being as.low as 28*90 for some considerable time. From this port the Alice goes to Auckland with part of her New York cargo. * TELEGRAPH NOTICE BOARD. AbkivaXiS.—Oot. 26: Wellington, 8.30 a.m.. Flora, from Lyttelton j Wellington, noon.
