There was a good attendance at the opening of the cricket match, Australians v. Essex. The weather was fine and the wicket level. The Colonials were all out for 250. Bruce scored 56. and Bannerman played an unusually free innings. The County team has lost two wickets for 72 runs, Taberer being not out with 28, and Owen 36.
