MEASLES.

MELBOURNE, August 4.

The epidemic of measles has reached Victoria, and is spreading rapidly throughout the Colony. Over sixty thousand people have been attacked by it, but the disease is of a mild character. One hundred deaths have been reported so far. The Board of Health expects that the epidemic will run out in three months, and says that it is likely to spread through the other Colonies. A Bill has been introduced in the Legislative Assembly providing for a 10 per cent reduction on all salaries except those of the Governor, Judges, Railway Commissioners and Ministers. EXPORTATION OF MEAT. The Bill which has been introduced to promote the exportation of meat provides for the levying of an export tax of 15a per 100 head of cattle and Is 6d per 100 head of sheen. CO-OPERATIVE COMMUNITIES. A Bill has been introduced to promote the establishment of co-operativo communities. It provides that 2a 6d per acre must bo expanded by groups in substantial improvements. Freeholds may be acquired, but no member of the community can have an individual interest. Advances not exceeding .£2O to any one individual can be made by the Colonial Treasurer. Land is also set apart for the formation of labour Colonies, the area of each Colony not to exceed 10,000 acres. -
