FOOTBALL.

WELLINGTON, August 11,

The New Zealand football team will meet eighteen of Wellington at Petone on Saturday. A meeting of the General Committee for the reception of the New Zealand representative football team, was held at the Parliamentary Buildings to-night, Mr G. Fisher, M.H.14., President of the Wellington Kugby Union, in the chair. Amongst those present were his Worship the Mayor, the Hon W. M’Cullougb, M.L.0., Messrs F. La wry and T. Thompson (Presidents of Auckland Clubs), James Alien (t-x-Presi-denfc of the Otago Union), A. E. G. Bnodea (Presideaoot the Canterbury Union), Bruce, Wileou, Harknesa, Hall-Jones, Guinness, and several others. On the motion of Mr Bruce, it was resolved that the members of the Eeception Committee should meet the Wakatipu on her arrival, and that the public should be invited to do so also. On the morion of Dr Newman, it was resolved to a di his Excellency to formally welcome the t am at Thomas’ Hall on Friday mornin vat tea o’clock. On the motion of Mr Brute, seconded by Dr Newman, it was resolved to oak his Excellency if it would be convenient for him to preside at the proposed “social,” the Premier to be asked to occupy the vice-chair; or, should his Excellency be unable to attend, the Premier to to asked to preside. The “ social.” was fixed to taka place at Thomas’ Hall on Saturday evening, and a strong Committee was formed to carry out all arrangements. DUNEDIN, August 1.

At a meeting of the Jiugby Union the suggestions of Saturday’s conference were adopted, and io was unanimously resolved to inform tbe Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki and Auckland Unions that the proposed tour has been abandoned, and to inform tbe Secretary of the New Zealand Union that the Otago Union could not agree to the request for a combined South Island eighteen to meet the team on Saturday.
