Messrs Kinsey and Co. yesterday received a telegram to the effect that the s.s. Wakatu was detained at Kaikoura owing to the heavy weather. An advertisement in another column announces that she will leave Lyttelton this evening. The barque Othello was entered outwards at the Customs on Saturday for the Bluff, where she goes to load timber. She is now in the stream awaiting a change of wind to commence the voyage. Shaw, Saviil and Albion Company’s cargo steamer Pakeha arrived in Port on Saturday morning from London via ports of call. Timaru was the last port at which she touched. She has 1700 tons of merchandise for Lyttelton, and was busily engaged throughout Saturday discharging it. The brigantine Sarah and Mary, for Auckland, and the schooner John Bell, for Wellington, took advantage of the fresh southerly breeze of Saturday evening and put to sea.
