POOR CLERKS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—l have read the letters In your issues of Thursday and Friday last, and sincerely hope they may enlist the sympathy of some employers and others. I know that there are families here in Christchurch where the father is a man of undoubted character and of highest education, and who to outward appearance have no need, but who in reality often need food and coal, but hide their poverty from thsir nearest neighbours even. Now when those in position are asked for employment by men who have been months unemployed, does it not strike them that they most, really need help? Many a temporary aid by giving a little clerical work in a busy week or so would cheer a struggling family. And, lastly, the clerks who are In good Eennanent positions, do they ever try ar i elp those of their profession who so sorely need it P—l am, &c., GOOD SAMARITAN.
