CHARITY.

TO THE EDITOB.

Sra,—l think it can be truly said tbet the people of Christchurch have shows* tfcufc there ate a great many generous people amongst ns. lam sure that the widow’s mite has often been given, and I am also sure that many have given who our ht hot' to have given. Tradesmen will have to o offer for some time for some of the gem rosily lately bestowed. Now, lam going to make another appeal to the well-to do com. munity, not to the poor—l feel’ashamed that they should ever be appealed to. God help them! Many rather need assist* ance. What I ask will hurt no one. Please understand that I appeal only to those who can afford it. Some of you are living in nice houses, and have nice children, and j some of yon have children who have all done schooling, but tbeir old slates end school books are still about and often in your way, and like the rich man’s tnilliot'3 they are sometimes rather a trouble to you than anything else. Now, if you would kindly send to the public schools all the slates and books you have no further use for, I feel sure that the schoolmasters would gladly distribute them to thcv.e children whose parents are unable to bi%y them. By doing so you would confer 5 a great .boon on poor little children who * 1 hearts are often sad because they cannot get the books they are told they o ust have.—l am, &c., CHILDREN’S FRIEND.
