KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of this Council was held in the Chambers on Tuesday evening; present—•Councillors Mathews, Butt, Bugg. Lissamanand Weston (Chair* man). Leave of absence was granted to his Worship the Mayor and Councillor Hopkins. Correspondence was received— JTrom Messrs Stringer and Creaawell, solicitors, claiming payment for some trees and shrubs on behalf of Mr Kenknighfc. From Mr Brick, the Council's reserve tenant, covering a cheque for £202 for rent due to Jan. 1. The Clerk was instructed to acknowledge the receipt, and to inform Mr Brick that interest for the overdue time would be expected. From the Colonial Treasurer, enclosing JS7S 15s as subsidy for 1892 and 1893 ; also, a refund of 12s for fees due to the Council from the Commissioner of Taxes. From Mr M. Nalder, notifying the sale of Smethurst's property to Mr Holland, and asking for the substitution of the latter’s name on the rate roll. This matter was left in the hands of the clerk. An account from Mr Webster was held over until the Mayo? can be present. The Works Committee reported that good progress was being made with the bridge, which would be finished this week; also that it had bought some material from Mr Smethurst. Its action was approved. The Clerk had forwarded the amount of £7 2s 6d to the Executive of'the Queensland fund. The Finance Committee was empowered to recover all outstanding fees for dogs. The receipts for the past fortnight were £214 sa; and accounts to the amount of .£39 5s Id were passed for payment. The Chairman of the Finance Committee reported the debit account at the Bank to be .£482 18i 6d, loan credit 15s. The report was adopted.
