THE ALABAMA MINSTRELS.

Emerson and Wood’s Minstrels gave an entirely new programme at the Theatre Royal last night, which proved equally as mirth-provoking as the preceding ones. Mr George H. Wood’s Americanisms were intensely funny, his discourse on protection and freetrade being an excellent burlesque. This was equalled at a later stage by a further treatise. Billy Emerson’s share of the performance was as successful as us usual, and in the second part ho had to answer to a triple recall. The vocal parts well sustained the reputation of the Company, and Lilian’s shooting feats were loudly applauded. The laughable sketches ** Is Marriage a Failure ?” and “ Tho Bush Judge,” in which Messrs Wood and Emerson took the leading parts, provoked roars of laughter. Mr Fred Hardy’s violin playing. Miss May Clyntoa’s dancing, and Mr Clarence Lyndon’s comic songs and dances were received with the customary applause, Mr Qua Pranks gave a clever series of “sable gymnastics.” The same programme will bo repeated this evening, and as this is tho last night but two of the Company’s stay in Christchurch those desirous of witnessing the performance should secure seats in good time.
