City men express a feeling of gratification at the agreement between the Associated Banks for mutual help, which they think will, if fully observed, restore confidence in Colonial financial institutions. The Fall Mall Gazette, however, says that the agreement. is not to be trusted, seeing that the Bank was not helped. Maech 15. The Antwerp wool sales opened with animation, and there was a large attendance of buyers. There was an rise in River Plate wool of ten centimes per kilo, as compared with the last series in Antwerp. Australian wool showed a rise of a half-penny per lb on the close of the last London series. WASHINGTON, Maech 14. _ President Cleveland considers it useless to ask the Congress to repeal the Silver Purchase Act until the pressure of hard times has aroused public opinion. - Owing to difficulty in the selling of gold bonds in London, the President has withdrawn the proposed sale. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cable message, dated; — LONDON, Maech 14 Wheat market very weak.
