AUCKLAND, March 15.
Inspector Hickson, witn a force of nine men from the Police and Permanent Artillery, leave by steamer to-night, for Wfaakatane, in order to conduct the case for tho Government against the Uriwera Maoris who obstructed the surveyors near Kuatoki. Informations for obstruction have been laid against a number of Maoris, and the charges will bo heard before Mr Eueh, Resident Magistrate. A house at Birkenhead, occupied by T. B. Smith, has been broken into and £2B stolen from a safe. Three man, named Atwood, M’Guinness and Tuiley, recently arrived from Sydney, have been arrested, charged with tho offence. WANGANUI, March 15.

At the annual meeting of the Wellington Football Club to-night the report showed that though not successful in tho field last season, the Club is in a sound financial condition. Mr J. E. Hume, who lost his amateur status through acting as captain of a tug-of-war team, resigned hia membership. The Club passed a resolution urging him to reconsider his decision, and stated that, while possessing a full knowledge of the facts which led to hie being placed under the ban, it expressed sympathy with him, and hoped tho New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association would soon see its way to remove the ban. Mr O. Gillon was elected captain, for the season. DUNEDIN, March 15, Messrs Green and Mackenzie and Dr Stenhouse have been returned for tha Education Board. Mr Eislop polled fiftytwo leas than Dr Sfcen house. The Technical Classes Association has secured tho Vulcan Foundry buildings, and will there fit up a technical laboratory, a physical and technical laboratory, a type-writing room, a workshop for carpentry and wood carving and a cooking room. INVERCARGILL, March 15. The charge against Vinoenza Almao of stealing a bull was dismissed by tho-S.M. to-day. A solicitor deposed that twelve months ago Almao consulted _ him as to what he should do with the animal, which was always about his place. He (counsel) advised him that he could not impound it under the Otago ordinance, as hia land was nob fenced, and that it was not his place to advertise for the owner. Tho Magistrate said he did not think & jury would convict on the evidence, and it would bo useless and would cost the country money to commit for trial. At the Irish Sports to-day J. King (Victoria) did 100yds in Gfaec. Thera was no wind, and the track was indifferent.
