YESTEEDAY'S MAEKET. The attendance at the market was by far the largest for some months, and, in consequence of the very large sale of sheep of all descriptions, there was good business done. The weather was very genial. Stoke Sheep. —A very large entry, principally of cross-bred owes and lambs, mot with a ready sale at capital prices. The sale showed that there is still an eager demand for ewes for breeding purposes, anything with a good mouth being snapped iup, particularly in small lines to suit farmers. Store cross-bred lambs were hardly as easy to dispose of as they have been, but several lots sold at from 7s 9d to 9a 9d. Two-tooth to sound-mouthed crossbred owes were in extra demand at from 12s 6d to 15s 6d, according to circumstances; and some two-tooth Down-cross ewes sold at 12s 9d and four-tooths at 13s 4d. Failing and broken-mouthed crossbred ewes realised from'7s 7d to 10a. The entry of merino ewes was less than usual, those sold being freely taken at 5s Sd to 7s 3d, but there was nothing offered that would compare with those at the recent Culverden sale. The sales of old and gummy merino ewes were unsatisfactory. Messrs Pyne and Co. sold 623 four and six-tooth cross-bred ewes at 14s 9d to 15s, 430 six and eight-tooth ewes at 12a 9d to 13s, 75 cross-bred lambs at 9s 6d, 53 old merino ewes at 2s 6d, 18 half-bred ewes at 8s 9d, 310 cross-bred lambs at 8s lOd, 52 sound-mouthed cross-bred ewes at 12s, 100 croao-bred ewes at 13s 4d. Messrs Todhunter and Jennings sold for clients, 230 cross-bred owes at 12a 7d, 128 at 10s, 229 at 12s 3d, 155 at 9s 4d, 877 fcwo-tootfa cross-bred ewes at 13a 6d, 150 aged ewes at 4s, 124 at 4s 9d, 700 eight-tooth ewes at 12a Bd, 204 cross-bred lambs at 7s lOd, 126 cross-bred ewes at 7a, 151 at 9a Id, 73 at 12s Sd, 28 aged cross-bred ewes at 6s, 70 at 10s, 226 four-tooth cross-bred owes at 13s 6d, 213 two-tooth do at 12s lid, 170 at 13s 6d. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opbbativE Association op Canterbury, Limited, sold for Mr J. Brown, 64 cross-bred owes at 8a 4d; for Mr Jasper Stewart, 501 lambs at 8s 3d. Mr P. C. Tabart sold 300 lambs at 7s 7<i, 150 at 10a 3d, 137 at 10s. Messrs Miles and Go., Limited, sold for Mr T. Needham, 32 cross-brad lambs at 9s 4d, 120 cross-bred ewes at 8s sd; for a client, 99 cross-bred owes at 15s. Fat Lambs. —About one thousand were yarded, aud the buyers for export were to the front iu securing them, each lot of prime lambs being sold readily at from 12s 3d to 14s 3d. They were nearly all sold for export. One especially fine line wos sold by Mr Tabart at 17e. Messrs Todhunteb and Jennings sold for Mr J. Eoeco, 28 lambs at 11s lid, 42 at 11a 2d, 5 at 10a; for Mr T. Pat Sheep.— 4soo were yarded, these including a number of very prime cross and half-bred wethers, for which there was a better demand, aud prices were firmer than ever. Prime wethers sold freely up to 17s 9d, and in a few eases of extra good sheep this was exceeded, while lines of cross-bred maiden ewes and wethers also met with a ready eale at from 14s 9d to 17a. There were some exceptionally fat Hamnshiro Down cross-bred e wes from Mr Max Fnedlandcr’e Lyndhutsb flock, and the same owner sent forward a draft of well-finished merino wethers and Lincoln cross-bred ewes. The entry of second-rate merino wethers was limited in extent. Stork Cattle. —Tho recant mins and growth of autumn feed gave a fillip to the’ sale in this section. Several lines of young] stock sold at improved rates; two-and-a-, half-year-old ateors brought .£4 la to £Ai 17s 6d; two-year-olds, mixed, from JSB 3u' to £3 7a 6d; yearlings 31s to 355, and Some, calves brought 18a. There was a good! sale for dry cows, and the demand for; springers and cows in full profit, though’ nothing like as good as it was last month,' showed a certain amount of activity.; Messrs H.
