TAHUNA FETE.
TO TUB EDITOR. fc’m,—T Don'-ro i.na'u tlio “ net proceeds " of i hi' ‘■.hove c u paul over »o the Queensland Fund amount to £l2 W;, out of over JB?>3 gross takings. In other words, about eightpenee out of every shilling has gone for expenses in a benefit performance. To avoid misunderstanding, I writs to state that the New Brighton Tramway Company’s share of the receipts was one-third of the whole—gate-money excepted—and amounted to about T 9, the Company making no deduction whatever for expenses. It follows, therefore, that the contribution from the Kingsley Club is some -£3 only. As the arrangement for all the fetes was that for tram service the Company should receive onu-third of the proceeds of ticket sales, this one-third was clearly as legitimate an item of "ex-, peases ”as any of those charged. But the whole basis of the benefit fete was that these expenses should be waived, and the Club having offered to give its share, the Company agreed to do the same. It is, therefore, disappointing to find that while the- Company baa loyally carried out its agreement the Club itself has really handed over only a nominal amount. —I am, &0,, G. M’INTYRE.
