The weather in Lyttelton yesterday was of a decidedly wintry description. A bitter southerly wind, accompanied with cutting rain and sleet, was blowing throughout the day. The boisterous weather greatly retarded the loading of perishable cargoes. The Steamer Jane Douglas, which armed in Port on Sunday night from Kaikouia, had a rather rough experience with tha fietoe southerly gale which has prevailed along thi coast during the past two or three days. On the passage to Kaihnnra she Was compelled to seek shelter in tha Amuri, and it was 10 a.m. on Saturday befora she reached her destination. The gala in excised throughout the day, and at 3 • p,ts, the seas were running mountains high. Her position at this time, and until daylight on Sunday, was anything hat a safe one. A watch was kept ashore all night, and as daylight dawned the gale moderated. teLegeapiTnotice BOARD..
