GENERAL MEETING. An adjourned general meeting iff the subscribers to the Canterbury Society pf Arts was held in the Art Gallery yesterday evening to receive the report o! the Committee appointed to draw up new Artides ot Association, with the view o 't r&pgiii? teringthe Society under the present title. The Hon E. C. J. Stevens, one of the VicePresidents, occupied the chair, and twenty* one members were present. * An apology was made for the abegnoe of the President, Mr R. Beetham,' who til away on duty in Wellington. >- The report of the Committee stated that it had been found that under Section 27 of “The Companies Act, 1882,” the drawing up fresh Articles of Ansoplatjjpfl could not be done except when a Company was In the wnresol dissolution. The CommitUe th®tefore, resolved unanimously to tithe ik>p opinion of Mr Bell, of Wellington, in addition to that of Mr George of Chmtchnrch. Both those gentlemea'dpin* elded in the opinion that the fiociety duly incorporated under its present ,tiflo* and that the mere irregularities in conduct of tho elections did nob deprive the members of their rights, they having been duly entered as such on the register of members kept by the Secretary, and having paid their Bubaoriptiona and takei# part in tho work of tho Society. The Chairman remarked that it wat evident that the Society had a regular legal existence, and could go 'pp .with business as at present constituted. Thi decision of the Committee was unanimous Mr W.
