WELLINGTON ITEMS.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 14. A full Cabinet meeting will be held early next week to consider the proposals made by the Midland Railway Company. Alterations are to be made in the seating accommodation in tha Legislative Council Chamber, and the seats are to be arranged in the same manner as those in the Lower House. A full Hat of tho Justices on the Commission of the Peace, including the names of the new Justices, will be gazetted tonight. Tho following is the number of the Justices in the various Provincial Districts :—Otago 417, Auckland 408, Canterbury 301, Wellington 238. Hawke’s Bay 105, Taranaki 97, Nelson 87, Westland 73, Marlborough 54. Mr Baetfaam, R.M., of Christchurch, arrived to-day to conduct the enquiry into the death of Ah Cbing in the Wellington Lunatic Asylum, but no time is fixed for opening the Commission. The Government declined the request of Mr Jellicoe, on behalf of deceased’s compatriots, to adjourn the enquiry until after the holidays, and refused to pay the expenses of witnesses other than those certified by tho Commission. The expenditure for widening the track from Pahiatua to Palmerston North into a dray road has been authorised by the Government.
