CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION .
A meeting of the Committee of the Canterbury Eugby Union was held at Warner's Hotel yesterday evening; present—Dr Moorhousa (Chairman), Messrs) T.E. Cresswell, F. T. Evans, J. S.Hawkes, T. W. Eaese (Treasurer) and T. S, Marshall (Hon Secretary). It was decided to play the match between the Merivale and Kaiapoiteamßon, Saturday at Lancaster Park. The-matches between Linwood and Sydenham and East Christchurch and Christchurch will be played at the Old Show Grounds. An apology was received from a player who was suspended for disputing th® referee’s decision in the match between the Eaugiora and Kaiapoi Junior Flag teams. Mr Eeeee moved, and Mr Hawke* seconded—“ That the apology be received and that the disqualification be removed.” The motion was carried. A > letter was received from Mr George Harris, resigning his position on the Committee. The Secretary stated that h« had written to the Unions in the North Island*, informing them of the proposed visit of the Canterbury team next month. A letter was received from the Wellington Eugby Union, asking the Canterbury team to play Wellington on August 29. It was resolved to consider the letter when replies from the other Unions have been received. A letter was received from the Hoa Secretary of the Canterbury College Football Club, objecting to a try secured by M'Guire in the match between the East Christchurch and Canterbury College Clubs last Saturday, on the ground that the ball was dead when the try was scored. A letter was also received from Mr A. M. Labatt, who officiated as referee in the match, explaining the ground on which he awarded the try. Mr Fawkes moved—“ That the try be disallowed.” Mr Eeese seconded the motion, which was carried. A letter was received from the Kaiapoi Club, asking the Union to sanction a grant towards the expenses of the Kaiapoi senior team when playing matches in Christchurch. The letter was received. The Secretary said he had made arrangements with the Association Football Club for the use of Lancaster Park. 1 Permission was granted to the Meri vale Club to play W. Wingfield, late of Dunedin, in the match against Kaiapoi on Saturday. The meeting then adjourned till next Tuesday evening, when a large amount of correspondence relating to the New Zealand Rugby Football Union will be considered.
