CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, July S. (Before R. Beethatn, Esq., K.M.) Drunkenness, &c. —R, Drew, for being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart in High street, was fined 10?, ia default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. LYTTELTON’. Saturday, July 0. (Before A. Chalmers and G. Laurenson, J.P/s.) Dbunkenness. —William Hughes and James M'Caba were fined 5 a each, in default tbs usual alternative. Indecency,— William Hughes, James M’C'abe, Francis Harrison, and Thomas Dowd were charged, on the information of the police, with committing a grossly indecent act. The case wai proved. The Bench, in giving judgment, sa d it was high time offenders of this description were,brought before the Court. Defendants had mode themselves liable to twelve montuT imprisonment, betas they were strangers to the plane a lenient v.ew of the matter would be taken. Hughes and M‘Cab« would be sentenced to four hours’ imp.ri lOiimeut, and Dowd, who had been previously convicted, to forty-eight hams’.
