I [Pee Press Association.] | WELLINGTON, July 9. f 3 The Municipal Association adopted the Ireport of the Fire Brigades Committee Ireeommending that Corporations should ■pay two-thirds of the cost, the Insurance /Companies paying the remainder. The proposal as to the retention of the highest local engineering talent was referred to the Committee appointed to shepherd the Municipal Corporations Act Amendment •pm. The Association finished its business by appointing the Mayor of Wellington as. Permanent President; as Vice-Presidents, the Mayors of Auckland, Dunedin, Christ-, church and Nelson; as the Committee, the Mayors of Ashburton, Napier, _ Petone. and Hutt, and Messrs L. L. Harris (Wellington), Pish, M.H.R. (Dunedin), Mills, M.H.E. (Port Chalmers). It also appointed; Mr S. P. Martin (Wellington City), solicitor, as permanent Secretary, at a salary of .£SO per annum, and voted .£25 to Mr Page, the Wellington Town Clerk, for his past Services. The report of the Committee upon the Pedlars and and Hawkers Bill was received, the only suggested alteration being that fees should be paid to local bodies instead of to the Government. The report was adopted. The Committee appointed to consider the rules of the Association reported, suggesting several amendments. The principal of these was an amendment to the effect that the Conference should sit every two years instead of annually. The report was adopted. Mr Phillips (Aucklond) moved —“ That permission should be given in the Municipal Corporation Act empowering councils to alter the name of their borough.” The motion was lost. Mr Phillips moved —“ That a clause he added providing that no live stock shall be allowed to be kept on the premises of butchers in boroughs.” The motion was
