BRITISH AND FOREIGN.

IBT ELEOTBIC TELEQBAPB.—OOPTEI9ET.I [Special to Pbess Association.] THE AMERICAN PRESIDENCY. WASHINGTON, June 22. The Democratic Convention has, by almost a two-thirds majority, selected Cleveland for nomination. THE CHICAGO EXHIBITION. NEW YORE, June 22. The Executive of the Chicago Exhibition is discussing Mr Dibbs’ objection to the proposed arrangement of Colonial exhibits at the World’s Fair. June 23. The Executive of the Exhibition intimates that it is willing to allow Australia 80,000 ft of space, provided the Colonies combine and erect their own buildings. The offer has been declined, as it would entail an expenditure of .67000. The Executive declines to permit Colonial exhibits in block, but offers a space of 50,000 feet for products to be classified separately. The Premier of New South Wales has communicated with his Government, advising it to retire altogether from the Exhibition, since it is impossible to accept the conditions of the Executive. Mr Dibbs asserts that the importance of the Colonies is being oveilooked, and that the proposed plan would result in a simple category of private exhibitors. THE PRESIDEN TIAL ELECTION The Democratic Convention in Chicago opened tamely. Governor Hill’s opposition is collapsing, and the nomination of Grover Cleveland as President is believed to be safe.
