At a- meeting of the Committee of the J>unedin Jockey Club, the Secretary re« ported that telegrams had been received on May 27—a day after the closing of the nominations for the Champagne Stakes—from the Eon J. t)~. Ormond, Napier, and W. J. Marshall, Auckland, containing nom» inations the stakes. Enquiries showed that Mr Ormond's telegram wus put- in at 10. SO, and Mr Marshall's at 13.30, on May 26, but were delayed through the broken cables. Mr Ormond asked that under the circumstances the nominations should be received. It was resolved to communicate with all the nominators of other horseß, asking them to agree to th© acceptance of the nominations. The Hon G. M'Lean and Mr E- S. Fish were appointed delegates to the conference to be held in Wellington, and were instructed to oppose tbe formation of a New Zealand Jbokey Club in any shape.

At a meeting of the Committee of the Ashburtort Racing Club, held on Saturday night, it was decided to spend a considerable sum of mouey in making a proper training track inside the present course, to do more planting in the reserve, and to repair the present buildings. The Committee decided not to proceed with tbe building of a new grand-stand at present. The Ashburton Stakes inaugurated at the last Autumn Meeting will be continued*

TINWALD RACING CLUB,

The annual meeting o? the members of the Tinwald Earing Club was held oa Tuesday evening, when there was a large attendance, and Dr Tweed occupied the ohair. Mr D. Thomas wrote, resigning his office as Starter and his membership of the Cleb. Hampton, James, Bedmayne, Suott, Sferichy and Wright, Stewards; and Messrs Beil, Clark, Crisp, Gates, J. 111. Hampton, J. VV. Hampton, Heeeltine, James, Kelly,' Eedniajne, Bountret, Scott and Scone, Committee. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring A meeting of the Committee was held "Afterwards, when Mr M.
