J Falmouth. The steamer Takapuna arrived from Manukau and way ports yesterday morning. She left Onehunga at 5 p.m. on May 9, New Plymouth at 8 a.m. on May 10 and Wellington at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Fine weather was experienced down the coast. The steamer Sotokino, which arrived in Port yesterday from Newcastle, reports speaking the barquentine Jasper, bound from Newcastle to this port with a cargo of coal. The vessel was sighted twelve miles to the westward of Stephens Island on Wednesday.

Captain Pretwurst of the German barque August Bur chard, who attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat at Lyttelton on Wednesday, spent a very restless night, but is now doing fairly well, and every hope is now entertained for his recovery. * The steamer Eotokino arrived in Port yesterday from Newcastle with a cargo of coal. She left the New South Wales port at II a.m. on May 5, and experienced strong south-east winds, with heavy seas, until May 8, then strong easterly winds to Stephens Island, followed by gales from the southward and eastward to arrival. The barque Pieblesshire, which left Port a week ago for the United Kingdom for orders with a full cargo of wheat loa'ded by Messrs Priedlander Bros., returned to Port yesterday evening for the purpose of procuring medical aid for the captain, who was taken ill at sea. Dr Guthrie was seat for and went off to the vessel in the stream last night. The Union Steamship Company’s steamer Manapouri arrived from Melbourne, via Hobart and southern ports, yesterday morning. She left Melbourne at 3.45 p.m. on May 5, arrived at Hobart at 7.55 a.m. oh May 7, and left again the same day at 4.45 p.m. Beached the Bluff at daylight on May 9, and left again at 5 p.m. Called at Dunedin and arrived as above.
