THE SEVRES PORCELAIN FACTORY. [Special to Press Association.] PARIS, Feb. 14. News has just been received that j the great national porcelain factory, at Sevres, is on fire. | [Sevres is a small town in the department of Seine-et-Oiae, six miles south-west { of Paris, on the Paris and Versailles railj way. It is world-famed for its manu- ! facture of porcelain wares, which are held to be unsurpassed for elegance of design 1 and beauty of painting. Painted glass is j also manufactured. The Porcelain Museum, which was destroyed during the war of 1870, contained a large and curious colI lection of articles in China and earthenIware from all parts of tha globe.] [Per Press Association.] BLENHEIM, Feb. 15. j Springlaud’s hotel was burnt this morn- | ing. It was insured for £l5O in the Commercial Union. INVERCARGILL, Feb. 15. The insurance on Sheffield and Co.’s stock damaged by fire yesterday is £2700 in the New Zealand office, reinsured, £IOOO in the South British and £250 in the j Victoria. It is probable that an inquiry will be held.
